Day 2. Roncasvalles-Zubiri.
Today was easier than yesterday, but there were still plenty of long steep rocky uphill paths to get your calf muscles screaming.
It's an Albergue (Pilgrim accommodation) run by the local authority (municipal) and costs €12 a night, no food.
But the sun was shining and some of the journey was through leafy forests with babbling streams. Which was nice.
It's just a case of following the signs, the yellow arrows and the Camino Shell motif, passing random little mounds of stones and messages along the way.
The welcome sign for the village of Zubiri was a welcome sight, then a last push over the steep bridge and I'm close to my accommodation for the night.

Here's my bed for the night.
Tomorrow, Pamplona.
Dia Dos - well done Frankie. It all looks rather 'english countryside' thus far, so mentally you can tell yourself you are out for a stroll having had a roast at Ye Oldie Smugglers Arms. Enjoy your meal ... when you find somewhere and get a good sleep. Bravo x
ReplyDeleteDay two was not quite as hard Fi. But it's not easy. A stroll through the English countryside would be nicer, and a roast dinner would be a dream! ××
DeleteWell done Frank.
ReplyDeleteI did think you might of had a day off after yesterdays killer walk.
Another 3/4 days and you’ll definitely have your walking legs on.
Any blisters yet?
Enjoy your meal and sleep.
By the way have you had any problems getting accommodation? Is it getting busy? Xx
Cheers Steve. No blisters, just a painful knee that I bought over from the UK. It's horrendous getting accommodation, all the private (the better) rooms are fully booked, I just walk 20 km and hope to get a bed in a municipal albergue. It's very basic, but you cannot book it in advance, it's first come, first served...more pressure to crack on. Unfortunately.
DeleteHave you hooked up with anyone Frank or are you going it alone thus far? Molly & Lola would love that babbling brook 🐕🐕 loving the updates. Stay safe, NtD xx
ReplyDeleteHi NtD. On my own currently, which I like as I really am Steady Eddie. I've met up in the evenings with some real nice characters. Dominic and his Dad from Holland, Marcus the vegetarian (good luck with that) from Italy. Another Dutch lass from Holland called Berlin, and her husband who is following her in the camper van. I didn't see her today. (Tuesday)
DeleteThe girls would love this, so many new dog friends in every village and loads of streams! ××
Griff: Keep the pics coming.. Look after them there knees ;)
ReplyDeleteCheers Griff. Given what we. both did as a job as young men with crap kit, its always going to be the knees that let us down. Or our backs, or our mental health, or our marriages. But mainly our knees. 😀
